It's a fun system and the characters do a really wonderful job of growing and deepening as you play through. Guy is my favorite, probably, but several of the others also have a lot to recommend them. Watching them become better people over the course of the game was great.

...also you can put them in costumes, which never hurts. (possibly my favorite is Guy's bartender outfit. so adorable!)

	aaaaw. ♥ SMT games are hard! They take a lot of leveling and skill-building. TotA didn't take anywhere near that kind of effort. Mostly it just kind of runs along at a nice clip. and you can make your entire party fight in their bathing suits near the end. ^^ (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

the battle system is honestly more like, um...kingdom hearts? Less strategy, more button flailing.

here is a youtube video* of how badass the battle system CAN be if you put effort into setting up your elements and manipulating the rest of your party members (who have very good AI) but my strategy of "mash the hitting buttons" carried me all the way up to the final boss JUST FINE. So.

*vid contains scenes from a few of the cut scenes, but these are either a)from the opening or b) mean nothing without context.

Yeah, I watched this video right at the point where we fucked off to do cooking for 12 hours before facing the final boss, and I took that as an opportunity to try and learn. I always felt that my team mates had SO MANY cool things they could do that I'd rather leave it up to them than try and control them (Guy, while I love him, was just. SO ZOOMY and all his skills rock, how was I supposed to choose just four of them?) but I set Luke up so that he could react off the spells Jade was most partial to, and one that he could set off himself. Used a lot of SP, but it was really fun.

and you get really good grades for setting the FOF changes off ^_^

honestly it's not that complicated.
Your options are:
x = attack
*directional pad forward* + x = more differenter attack
*directional pad down* + x = more differenter attack
*directional pad up* + x = more differenter attack
*directional pad forward* + o = special attack
*directional pad down* + o = more differenter special attack
*directional pad up* + o = more differenter special attack
o = one more special attack
square = block

so.
and then you combine at will.
